No Spare Bedroom Needed: Vintage Ads of Hide-a-Bed Sofa Ads by Simmons from the 1950s

In April 1940, the Simmons Mattress Company introduced the Hide-A-Bed, an innovative fold-out sleeper sofa that was another of the company’s success stories. This sofa doubles as a couch until you remove its cushions and discover the spring-loaded metal frame and mattress underneath. The mattress swung up and out upon pulling on the handle or structure, then folded open to become a full-sized bed.

The newer hideaway beds came with a variety of mattress options in twin, complete, or queen sizes and use standard, air, or foam mattresses to improve the sleep experience.
