The city was founded by Vikings, who settled in what they called the “Norse Kingdom of Dublin” in the 9th century. Dublin expanded rapidly from the 17th century and was briefly the second largest city in the British Empire before the Acts of Union in 1800. Today Dublin is Europe’s Silicon Valley because all the tech giants have settled their European headquarters in Dublin.
