Beautiful Retro Jacuzzi Hot Tubs from the 1970s and 1980s

The 1970s were probably the decade when you could be found steaming things up in a Jacuzzi instead of burning up the disco dance floor. The hot tubs were a relaxing, soothing place that added a swanky, sexy touch to anyone’s living space. Jacuzzis seemed to go well with shag rugs and wood paneling, as well as their hipster appeal. If you had a Jacuzzi, you would never again have to take a regular bath. Take a soak in a Jacuzzi instead, and you’ll take bathing to the next level.

Modern hot tubs, also called Jacuzzis, were designed, invented, and built by the seven Jacuzzi brothers, who emigrated to California from Italy in the early 1900s. The family’s ingenuity and work ethic contributed to advancements in aviation and water pumps used in farming and agriculture, notably orange groves. The Jacuzzi brothers invented the world’s first submersible pump. Directly from the ground, water could be drawn into pipes then distributed to where it was needed. In 1956, the brothers developed their first hot tub, the J-300, after a family member developed rheumatoid arthritis. To transfer hot water from a furnace to another water container, they designed a piping system and a hydrotherapy pump. Jacuzzi created the world’s first integrated jet whirlpool bath in 1968. By 1970, Jacuzzi introduced larger indoor tubs to accommodate groups or whole families, but design changes allowed them to be used outside as well.

The 1970s saw the introduction of multiperson hot tubs. Hot tubs became widely known as Jacuzzis around this time because the Jacuzzi family had revolutionized the concept. Jacuzzis became popular gathering spots for families and friends, neighbors and partygoers, and swinging singles and cozy couples alike.
