Stunning Vintage Photos Show What Morocco Looked Like in the 1960s

In the 1960s Morocco was ruled by King Hassan II, after the death of his father. He was a conservative ruler and during his reign was marked by political unrest and heavy-handed government response to criticism and opposition. Many opposition leaders and laborers were arrested who spoke against the government’s policies. Hassan II allied Morocco with the West generally, and with the United States in particular.

In the 1960s, several musicians, artists, and authors visited Morocco. Rolling stones traveled the country in search of musical inspiration and found that and much more. They were enthralled by the atmosphere and culture of Morocco.
