I remember riding my bike down an on ramp to 85 right before it opened in ‘94
Used to ride my bike to Futurama Bowl from the Lawrence Expressway Bollinger Rd area before both 280 and Law Expressway were there.
The first morning 85 was open for traffic, there were several big multi-car accidents in Campbell in one place on the freeway.
The reason was the landscapers had spelled out “Campbell” in big letters in the dirt hill on the side of the freeway with flowers.
People being the idiots that they are suddenly slowed down to see what it was, and people behind them didn’t expect an idiot to slam on their brakes to look at flowers.
I rode my bike on 85 before it opened, too. It was fun. I was the only one out there.
My entire family rode on 280… Near the Winchester Mystery House.
