Christmas morning 1958 I was 4 and my brother 14 took our new sled, mine and his new 6 foot padded toboggan 9 blocks to Christie Pitts.
Snowing heavily we arrived nw corner, steep hill.He insisted on trying my sled first for safety.I watch as he goes, face first on my flyer.Halfway down an out of control toboggan hits my brother,my sled and I see pieces flying,5 directions!I’m screaming, crying as he gathers pieces,he and people rushing up to me.My brother bleeding from a wee forehead cut, looks near death, down a quart.he was fine.I take my broken sled, wept all the way home.
Dad saw us and he was only worried about us,our wounds.my poor brother, always had my back.Boxing day we got another sled. That was 65 years ago!
Loved your story, thanks for sharing.
thanks, the man that crashed into my brother came home with us too, with his young son.he wanted to make sure my brother was OK,he was.
He offered to pay for destroying my sled but I don’t know if he did or not.Dad took us somewhere boxingday and replaced my sled.he took us all,my 2 sisters too, somewhere north of the city.to sled, toboggan.
oh my goodness – the love in your comment brought tears to my eyes Greg. Thank you
The Royal Bumps at Christie Pits in the 60’s . Many a fun day there. Now all blocked by trees.
I recall obstacles, like manhole covers and a post here and there.
St Clair revine was awesome
we did that at earlscourt park on St Clair
Noble Park With a great ice rink shed slapping wet burlap socks on the stove
Birchmount and St Clair. Great tobogganing!
