During the 1960s, Scotland was going through a social, political, and economic crisis. The unemployment rate was very high; the shipyard was also closed in the 1960s, and industries began to decline. However, in the late 1960s, the country began to emerge from the difficult times. At a stroke, Scottish independence was on the political agenda, and there seemed to be little anyone could do to stop it.
