Zollicoffer Barracks - Maxwell House Hotel, 1865

Construction of the Maxwell House Hotel was not completed when Federal troops seized the building for use as a prison for Confederate soldiers. The cornerstone was laid in August of 1860, and the formal opening was in September of 1869.
