In the ‘80’s there was a French Bake Shop (name?) on the ground floor with the best Apple fritters bigger than my whole hand! Delicious!
One of my great-uncles worked there in 1927.
His little sister was bringing his dinner to him there, when she was killed en route by a knife-wielding man rampaging up Elizabeth Street.
My older brother hung out at Bassel’s (window seat) all the time (when he wasn’t working at Eaton’s College St store). I remember that place so clearly!
