In one of my few jaunts downtown, in 1971 a friend and I dropped in at Le Coq d’Or upstairs to see Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins, and a guest musician, David Clayton Thomas, came out as well to perform.
Did Ronnie do his signature song “Bluebirds Over The Mountain?” It’s one of my favorites.
The Art Deco neon sign for Crawford’s Men’s Wear (partly visible at far right) looks as though it might date from the 1940’s or even a little earlier.
