I lived in Los Gatos awhile, but I have always dreaded driving 17.

Notice the lack of a barrier. Hwy 17 killed one of my parent’s college friends when they were at SCU headed to the beaches two years after this pic.
We were driving south towards Santa Cruz at this spot in late 1963 and two young women (I think they might have been sisters?) were hit by a car that crossed into that lane and one of them was thrown from the car and killed. I believe she was about 20 years old. It really affected me and has stayed with me all these years. In fact I think about it a lot when driving past this spot.
University Ave School, Before Old Town, we had to walk across that bridge in school uniforms to the LGH playing field for gym class!
Look at all that traffic!
