A camel team at Cloncurry, 1890

The first camel to be brought to Australia was landed at Port Adelaide from the ship “Oppoline” in 1840. It became the central figure in a double tragedy – first the death of its owner, the explorer John Horrocks, and, four weeks later, its own death.
