Basel’s was a real treat when I was a kid. Definitely a part of my childhood.
how far back do you go? 75 cent hot roast beef sandwich and fixin’s?
it was a place my parents took us before or after a movie. My father took care of the meal so never looked too closely at the menu. I believe by the time I was paying for myself, Basels was already gone. Loved the glam photo of the queen behind the cashier
I remember having a burger, fries and cole slaw for 95 cents. I think it was called the hamburger special. I’d go there on a Sunday after a Toronto Marlies game. Amazing how many great memories involve food.
Never went there as a kid, but in the 80s, I went there for a couple lunches. It was a nice place to go.
My parents took me there with a group of their friends after they would go to the O’Keefe Center or the Royal Alex.
I was 10 or 11 and feltvery grown up
Was this where Mick e Fynns bar was in the 90s ?
yes. I lived across the street at Willard Hall! There was a croissant place on the corner too
we went to Lindys every Sunday night for dinner. I think we paid $6.99 for a full dinner! I don’t remember the movie theatre.
I think it was steak and fries. Way better than Willard Hall food! There was a nice little Italian restaurant across Yonge St and one of the first Swiss Chalets. I sometimes felt guilty cause I’d already paid for the Halls..lol Alot of girls went to Ryerson but some were working.
oh my yes! Thursday pub nights! I still have a few pint glasses from there. 😉
Can u find old maple leaf gardens or Allan park
North to Carlton Street than a right…easy walk
ok thanks just trying to remember is the old leaf building still standing
The building is still there but it’s now a supermarket and the ice rink for Ryerson University.
such a shame so many lovely buildings have been torn down!
Started at Bassels, then Zanzibar, Bermuda, Steeles, Brown Derby, Le Coq d’Or ending at the Colonial. Possibly the greatest pub crawl of the early 60’s. (Subway and bus home!)
