I grew up on Oak Park, just east of Woodbine. I remember the Prince of Wales Theater, the Flamingo Restaurant next door and riding my bike a little further west to Wallace’s bakery on a Saturday morning to buy two loaves of fresh bread. Anyone remember Van’s pharmacy at Westlake & Danforth or Tracey’s Hardware?
Yes! Van’s pharmacy was right near my Dad’s hair salon back in the day. We always frequented Tracy’s Hardware too! My brother and I would always play with Mr. Tracy. He was so funny! Great old days!
Just out of this photo on the north side of Danforth and west of Woodbine was the original Loblaw store. On the northeast corner of Danforth and Woodbine was a United Cigar Store near the Prince of Wales Theatre.
I love going to the Prince of Wales for a double feature. I had my first smoke up in the balcony.
There was a restaurant called Sweets on Roncesvale up from Kings street. A lot of teenagers hug out there especially on Sundays .
