In the summer of 1954, Norway hosted a series of coastal photo shoots known as the “Bathing Beauties” sessions. These events took place along the rocky shores and sandy beaches of the Oslofjord. Professional and aspiring models gathered to pose for photographers in a setting that celebrated health and the outdoors. The atmosphere was casual and focused on capturing the look of the short Scandinavian summer.
The models wore the latest fashion in swimwear, which mostly consisted of modest two-piece suits made of heavy cotton or wool. These garments featured high-waisted bottoms and structured tops that reflected the conservative style of the early 1950s. While some women were professionals, many were local residents hired to represent the style of their nearby towns. They walked across wooden docks and stood on granite boulders to provide striking angles for the camera lenses.
