Tuesday Weld is an award-winning former actress and fashion model who got fame and fortune during the 1960s for her superb performances in several films and TV Shows. She began acting as a child and progressed to mature roles in the late 1950s. She won a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Female Newcomer in 1960. Over the following decade, she established a career playing dramatic roles in films.
Childhood and professional career
Weld was not blessed with a beautiful childhood and adulthood. Her father died during her childhood, and she took over the role of the family breadwinner. Weld became a successful child model, posing for advertisements and mail-order catalogs. At 12 years old, she made her acting debut on TV; that year, she also made her film debut in the 1956 crime drama ‘The False Man’ by Alfred Hitchcock. Pressures from her profession caused her to have a nervous breakdown at the age of nine, develop alcoholism at the age of twelve, and commit suicide.
Television career
Weld got the lead role in the 1956 drama film ‘Rock, Rock, Rock.’ She also starred the same year in a “Backwoods Cinderella” episode of Goodyear Playhouse. Fox managers were convinced of Weld’s success at Flag Boys, who signed a long-term contract with her. They put it in the CBS TV series’ ‘Dobie Gillis’s Many Loves, ‘ which was paid $35 thousand for a year. She was also a co-winner of the “Most Promised Newcomer’s Award” in the Golden Globe Awards for the famous CBS sitcom ‘Thalia Menninger.’ Weld worked in many favorite films and TV shows during the 1960s and has won several nominations. She has concentrated increasingly on made-for-TV films since the mid-’70s. In search of Mr. Goodbar (1977), Weld attracted attention as the favored, out-of-control Katherine in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), and a year later, she appeared in ‘ Who’ll Stop the Rain.’ Weld made her final appearance in the 2001 film ‘Chelsea Walls.’
Personal life
Weld has been married three times. She was married to screenwriter Claude Harz from 1965 until their divorce in 1971. They had a daughter, Natasha, in 1966. In 1975, she married British actor, musician, and comedian Dudley Moore 1975. The couple divorced four years later, and they had a son. Weld married Israeli concert violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman. The marriage lasted only three years and ended with a divorce. Weld also dated Elvis Presley, Al Pacino, David Steinberg, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Richard Gere, and many more.
