Hong Kong in the 1970s underwent many economic and educational reforms that shaped its future under the longest-serving Governor, Murray MacLehose. The first supermarket in Hong Kong was opened in Central in 1970. The first rapid transit (Mass transit Railway) was also opened in 1979.
