Rare archival photographs show a young Osama bin Laden participating in judo training during the early 1980s in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These historical images were provided by Taiwanese judo coach Jimmy Wu, who stated that he taught martial arts classes in the Saudi capital during that decade. According to the coach, the future militant leader attended martial arts lessons two to three times a week at the facility. Wu described him during those years as a tall, thin, bearded, and serious young man who kept a mop of black hair. The instructor never saw him again after the year 1984.

During an interview conducted in Taichung on May 7, 2011, coach Jimmy Wu displayed the vintage photographs to news reporters from Reuters. The pictures document the daily activities of the judo club members in Riyadh and preserve a visual record of the young participant before his later involvement in global militant activities. In the visual records, the individuals wear traditional martial arts gear while posing together for the camera inside the training hall.

Additional archival documentation supplied by the martial arts instructor captures the group socializing outside of formal practice sessions. The pictures show the club members sharing meals together in Riyadh, reflecting the ordinary interactions of students training at the athletic center during that period.

The collection of images includes multiple candid shots taken during meal times, providing a closer look at the students who trained alongside the instructor in Saudi Arabia. These scenes capture the routine environment of the martial arts academy where the young participants gathered regularly.

The photographic series concludes with an undated portrait focusing specifically on the individual identified by the coach as Osama bin Laden, dressed fully in his martial arts uniform. These preserved artifacts offer a factual glimpse into a specific period of the historical figure's life prior to his departure from the athletic academy in 1984.
