The 20th century in Sweden started the emergence of three major party groups – Social democrat, Liberal, and Conservative. In 1907, all men over the age of 24 were given the right to vote. The law was modified in 1919, and women were allowed to vote as well. As a result, people were moving from the countryside to cities. Workers joined together to form unions to improve their working conditions and increase their wages. In 1909 there was a general strike in which 300,000 workers stopped working, which resulted in the significant development of labor laws. Below is an amazing gallery of photographs captured by Oskar Jarén that show the everyday life of Swedish People from the 1910s and 1920s. Vote your favorites, and don’t forget to share.
