Actress Wanda Hendrix Visiting Mildred Alexander’s Motel for Cats in San Francisco, 1947

Mildred Alexander gave a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘cathouse’! She had a Sherman Oaks cat motel with 30 units that covered nearly an acre in size. Cats were housed in a cozy bungalow with customized menus that included lobsters or iced water in crystal goblets. There was a barrel bed for adult cats and a crib for kittens.

There is a recreation hall in every blue and white cat bungalow. Electrical lights will be installed inside the rooms, which will be heated in the winter. Cats can enjoy the sun and breeze when bunking during the summer.
