Ball of Fire is a 1941 American screwball comedy film starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. The costumes and settings in the movie are gorgeous, and the cinematography, which doesn’t seem dated at all. Wilder’s direction is spot-on, and the screenplay is witty and hysterically funny. The music is bouncy, and there’s a lovely touch of romanticism to the story. It’s an updated version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It’s evident that when Gary Cooper and the gorgeous Stanwyck set eyes on each other, they will end up together.
Barbara Stanwyck perfectly portrayed the role of Sugarpuss O’Shea in the movie. She speaks a mile a minute and charms not just Cooper but a whole cast of great character actors. Stanwyck’s outfits in Ball of Fire are designed to make her appear as sexually appealing as possible.
