Kent is a historic county in South East England. Great Britain relied on the county’s ports to provide warships through much of its history. Kent has been subjected to numerous invasions and has attracted successive waves of settlement. It was one of the first British territories to be settled by Germanic tribes. It is also known as ‘The Garden of England’ because of its relative abundance of fruit-growing and hop gardens.
These fascinating historical photos show what Kent looked like from between the 1900s and 1920s.
My home is in Bromley, so Green St Green, Foots Cray, and other nearby locations are very close to me. I must go back and see if I can replace the old photos with the more modern ones.
I’ve been to probably most of those sites many years ago, not much is recognisable now
Wow, I live near Bromley, so there, Green St Green, Foots Cray etc are all very local to me, I shall have to re visit these locations to see if I can fit the photos to the modern sites.
These are great, thanks for posting. Particularly like the Ramsgate Sands photo, the Royal Pavillion looks the same now, apart from the Wetherspoon’s signage!
