Fascinating Photos Show Life of Guatemala in the 1980s

Guatemala is a country in Central America. It is a beautiful country with plenty of volcanoes, mountains, forests, and beaches. It is also home to the ancient civilization of the Maya. The Maya civilization was very advanced in math and astronomy. Guatemala gained independence from Spain and became part of the Mexican Empire in 1821. It became fully independent in 1841.

Here are some fascinating photos that show the life of Guatemala in the 1980s. Chilean photographer Marcelo Montecino captured these photographs during his trip to Guatemala. It was the time when Guatemala was going through a bloody civil war. During the 1980s, the military assumed almost absolute government power for five years.
