Motor Trend is an American auto magazine. It was published for the first time in September 1949, and the first Car of the Year award was introduced. Los Angeles-based Petersen Publishing Company published Motor Trend until 1998 when it was sold to British publisher EMAP, who then sold the former Petersen magazines to Primedia in 2001. Since 2019, the magazine has been published by the Motor Trend Group. It has over one million readers each month. Its tagline reads, “The Magazine for a Motoring World.”
