Fascinating Vintage Photos of Saskatchewan, Canada From the Early-20th Century

Saskatchewan a prairie and boreal province in western Canada, it became a full member of the Canadian federation in 1905. It is the only landlocked province of Canada with large distances to moderating bodies of waters. In the early 20th century, there were 19,200 families residing in Saskatchewan, the population increased rapidly in the 1910s.

The Liberals won the 1905 provincial elections and they started many social and development projects in the province. The Saskatchewan government bought out Bell Telephone Company in 1909. The government also provided bond guarantees to railway companies for the construction of branch lines. The large influx of immigrants from Europe and America arrived in Saskatchewan in 1910. Saskatchewan gave women the right to vote in 1916 and at the end of 1916 passed a referendum to prohibit the sale of alcohol.
