Around 3 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 1978, Ohio was hit by the worst blizzard in its recorded history.

Heavy snowfall was followed by freezing rain and more snowfall. Record winds of 67 mph ripped through the state, creating snowdrifts, some over 10 feet high. It added 4 more inches to the already 17 inches of snow on the ground from previous snowfalls.
